What is a Swim -A-Thon? 

Swim-a-thon is a fundraiser in which participants earn money for our team by swimming lengths of the pool.  Swimmers have a two-hour period to swim a maximum of 200 lengths.  Your swimmer does not have to complete 200-but don’t be surprised if they do.  They may even use fins if they desire.  Participants get pledges from businesses, family, neighbors, etc. prior to swimming.  Some choose to get pledges and money prior to swimming while others get pledges per length and collect the money following the Swim-A-Thon.  Not only does this event benefit our club and USA swimming, but a portion of the proceeds will go to MADISON SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY REC (MSCR) http://mscr.org to help promote their swim program. MSCR Aquatics serves over 3000 swimmers per year, many of whom have very limited access to pools. A donation to them will allow even more youth access to affordable and quality swim lessons.

The Swim-a-thon exemplifies what our team is all about, SWIMMING!  While we cannot make the swim-a-thon mandatory, all winter swimmers are expected to participate in this fun fundraising event.  If you cannot make the event, or have a high school boy, please consider a tax deductible donation! 

Last year we raised $20,000.00. Our goal this year is $22,000.
We have used this money in the past to help offset costs like the latex BAC caps & team t shirts that we supply to all of our swimmers, swim clinics (Weber-Gale), training equipment and other items that directly benefit our swimmers. We have also paid for the UV systems at the Middleton and Edgewood pools, made a large donation for the new scoreboard at Middleton & Monona High School and have made donations to many different organizations in the past;  (KEEP WI WARM/COOL, RESTORING HOPE TRANSPLANT HOUSE, AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, CAPITAL CANDELIGHTERS (childhood cancer). 

Again, this year is the ability to donate online with credit card payments.  You should have already received an email on how to set up a personalized account for your swimmer.  You have the ability to set up your swimmers profile and do a mass email to your family and friends.  A one-time pledge can be made or a by lap pledge.  

Prizes will be given to swimmers who raise money in the following categories:

Prize categories – t-shrit, mesh bag, towel and sandal will be available at the swim-a-thon.  Suit will have to be ordered.  Prize colors for items are available on first people to turn in slips and commit to donation. 
Level 1: $50      Swim-a-Thon T-shirt ($15)
Level 2: $125    Level 1  + Speedo Mesh Bag ($18)
Level 3: $200   Level 1, 2 + Towel ($25)Level 4: $300   Level 1,2,3 + Terox Sandal ($40)
Level 5: $500   Level 1,2,3,4 + Aquablade suit ($65-$85)

TOP TWO EARNERS WILL WIN A ONE NIGHT STAY AT ANY WISCO HOTEL GROUP PKG. (Donated by WISCO hotels)
PIZZA PARTY TO TOP GROUP OF EARNERS (LB, AGR, AGG, MS, JRB, JRG, HS/SR)
MANY, MANY AUTOGRAPHED SPEEDO OLYMPIC SWIMMER ITEMS TO BE GIVEN OUT AT DRAWING DURING EVENT. 

WE ARE STILL WAITING ON NOODLES & COMPANY TO BE ON SITE AT THE POOL WITH MEALS TO PURCHASE.  IF NOT WE WILL HAVE GRILLED BURGERS AND BRATS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE DURING THE EVENT.

We would like to stick to the schedule below. However, please feel free to swim the other time if need be.

5:00-7:00 PM 11 & UNDER
7:00-9:00 PM 12 & UP

ALL MONIES EARNED CAN BE TURNED IN AT THE SWIM-A-THON OR MAILED TO THE SHERRY, 7201 MAYWOOD AVE., MIDDLETON, WI  53562.  CHECKS SHOULD BE MADE OUT TO BADGER AQUATICS CLUB.     (IF YOU COLLECTED ONLINE WITH CREDIT CARD, NOTHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.)

DO NOT GIVE TO THE COACHES!  DEADLINE FOR TURNING IN PLEDGES:   FEBRUARY 11, 2013.

NOTE:  DONATIONS ARE 100% TAX DEDUCTIBLE. HOWEVER, IF A PARENT JUST DONATES THE FULL AMT., THE AMT. OF PRIZES EARNED MUST BE DEDUCTED FROM THE DONATED AMT. WHEN FIGURING AN AMT. TO CLAIM ON TAXES.
